I started to play piano at the age of 6 and studied piano, music theory and history for 11 years in the Selective Music School Program for Gifted Children. I was educated in Traditional Classical Piano Method, although I’ve always enjoyed playing piano pieces of various contemporary styles.

After graduation, I was accepted to five–year program at Muzichesku State Conservatory of Music and Fine Arts (Moldova), where I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance and Teaching.

I’ve been teaching for over 30 years, and have taught in Maple Grove since 1991. I am a Professionally Certified Member of MMTA, and periodically serve as MMTA Exams adjudicator. I have assisted the revision committee for Sight Playing program and MMTA Contest composition list for 2017.

Also, I am a member of MTNA and MMTF, and volunteer regularly at competitions and Minneapolis teachers’ recitals.

In a way of personal growth, I like to attend teachers’ workshops and MMTA Conventions, attend concerts, musicals and theatre productions.

I like to share my knowledge and skills with students of all ages (presently 4-75) and abilities, early through advanced levels.

As a teacher, I like to see students grow to love piano, get excited about their new pieces and mastering them, form their musical taste/interest and develop fundamental skills for interpreting piano pieces of various styles. My students are encouraged to learn and appreciate music they encounter, and a fitting, fun repertoire is selected specifically for each individual.

My students regularly participate in academic programs offered by MMTA: Piano, Theory and Sight Playing Exams, MMTA Piano Contest, Young Artist Contest, Northwestern Piano Solo Festival, and the Ensemble Festival, and have received numerous recognitions and awards. I hold two annual studio recitals as well.

Though optional, I feel giving students a chance to perform is important for their musical, as well as personal, development. Performing teaches commitment and diligence and allows them to share their talent with others. Over the years my students’ achievements have been recognized in the Star Tribune and the Maple Grove Press, and in general I really enjoy getting feedback about their performances.

In 2023, this Studio have been named Best Piano Company by DistinguishedTeaching.com.

My hope is that for my students, taking piano lessons will turn into a life-long interest in music and that their passion for the arts will be passed down to future generations.

MAPLE GROVE October 21, 2018 -- Piano Studio of Lillia Schloner has been selected for the 2018 Best of Maple Grove Award in the Piano Instructor category by the Maple Grove Award Program.
